Project Life Week 7

I'm a little behind on my Project Life album. By now I should have week 8 printed and laid out, but I haven't even edited pictures yet, let alone print them out and organize them! This has been a busy week with work... the great thing about Project Life though, is that I can simply pick back up again when I have a little more time (like say in 10-20 years? Ha!)

Left-hand side of this week:

Some supplies I used are Love, Elsie stickers, punchinella, homemade tags (made from office labels), Dymo Labels (old school!), and felt.

I took out some old scrapbook supplies that were stored (when we were cleaning out the guest room in anticipation of Truman's arrival!) and actually did some more traditional type of scrapping this week. It took me MUCH longer to finish this week's spread, but it's now my favorite! (NOTE: to increase the quality of the picture I took of this side, I took out the inserts and laid them ON the sleeve instead of leaving them inside. This minimized the glare, for sure.)
Right-hand side:

The entire right-hand side is just full of pictures and the weekly wrap-up (again typed this week because I had so much to say!)

I have TONS of inserts this week. The first is full of pictures I took of Phinn for Valentine's Day and a card he got from his grandma Sandy. I used a lot of felt for this week's spread and inserts - I really like the way the color POPS!

The other side of this first insert is full of pictures we took for Phinn's aunt on her birthday!

The rest of the inserts are my first attempt at A Day In The Life - insprired by Ali Edwards, of course. First, a 6x6 title page. The insert is a piece of felt with an old Love, Elsie cardboard sticker. I've been hoarding a ton of Love, Elsie products and am finally beginning to use them!

After the mini-title page is a standard 8.5x11 with the journalling from the day. I used the same format as I saw on Ali's website: listing each hour and either leaving it blank (if we were sleeping or not doing anything) or writing next to is what was going on at that time.

On the front of the journal insert I have numbers from a Love, Elsie sticker pack, punchinella at the bottom underneath the journalling, some random stickers, and a piece of blue felt "ribbon" that I stitched into place. On the back side of the insert is more journalling (of course) and a "today" piece of felt I cut out and stapled into place.

The next two inserts (only one side of one is shown below) are full of pictures taken throughout the day. I have a page of screenshots of text messages I sent/received throughout the day as well (not pictured).

I really enjoyed documenting an entire day and luckily I had the time to do it that day since it was a holiday. I think the next time though, I'll probably do a little more research and use a different format - I'm not sure if I like the way it turned out.

Thanks for looking!

Project Life Week 6

Week 6 of Project Life.
Here is the full spread:

The left hand side:

Not a ton of journaling this week. I've been making a more conscious effort to take pictures of every day activities and because of that, I think the journaling has suffered. I'll work on that - I want there to be more writing in this album than I have been adding so that Phinn (and his brothers and/or sisters, eventually) can read about our daily lives.

Here's a close up of my Picture A Day collage:

And here is the right hand side:

There are two inserts this week - sorry for the crappy pictures. I had no patience to try and get better ones.
The first insert follows the same theme as Phinn's 3 month spread - I like the uniformity of this.

The second insert is full of pictures from my cousin's son's first birthday party. The back of the 4x6 picture is blank - I'll probably add some journaling eventually.

I found this huge stash of punchinella and added it to fill an empty spot. I really like the way it looks, but wish that the insert behind it had a solid back drop... oh well.

I'm working on week 7 right now. I'm trying to do more scrapbook-y inserts for week 7, so it will probably take me a while to finish.

Thanks for looking!

Project Life Week 5

I've been doing pretty well with keeping up with Project Life. I am almost done with week 6 and have already started preparing some of the pictures for week 7 (this week)

Here's my week 5 spread:
  • I like the way the title block turned out. I cut a little "window" and put a hambly overlay in it. The red of the title block from week 4 makes for a good backdrop.
  • I inserted a card my sister sent to Truman with a gift.
  • In order to highlight the fact that Phinn turned over for the first time this week, I wrote it out on a separate card.
  • I took screen shots of videos I took during this week. Phinn is becoming more and more interactive with us and I wanted to be sure to capture it all!

There are two inserts this week. I can't seem to get enough of them!
The first is the right hand side of a Design F insert. I had a few more 3x4's than usual so I added this mini-insert.

I put pictures from Phinn's 4-month well check appointment as well as the "update" paper they give us with his current weight, height, and head circumference. I also added a divider tab with an "xoxo" label stuck in it.

The second insert is a simple 8.5x11 sheet protector with 8x10 pictures on each side. I really liked these pictures I took this week (one of Wade and Phinn, and one of all 3 of us at the doctor's office!) so I printed out large copies.

And here is the right hand side of this week's spread. I finally found a place that sells Red Hots (should have bought more, dangit) so I put part of the box in here. I have my usual Picture A Day collage and the weekly wrap up. Put a mini screenshot of my News Feed on Facebook - the first 4 were pictures of babies from 4 different friends who have newborns! Weird.

I'm hoping to finish week 6 this weekend (4-day weekend!!!).

Project Life 2012 Week 02

Here is Week 02 of my Project Life album (Jan 08-14) I have been adding text to my photos before having them printed (usually through or Costco). A few of them printed kind of funky where the text was cut off - this is something I need to be more careful about in the future.
Anyway, here is the left hand side of Week 02:

This week I have an insert made from Design E. I just cut off the other 2 6x6 pockets to make this one. At first I was struggling with the idea that I was wasting money cutting them in half, but now I've come to realize that it's better to have an insert I want.
Here are both sides of the insert documenting Truman's 3 month pictures.

And finally, here is the right hand side of Week 02.

While making this week's layouts, I was a bit upset that more exciting things hadn't happened. Then I realized that Project Life (for me, at least) isn't necessarily supposed to be overflowing with life-changing events. I want Project Life to be a way to document LIFE. I want to be able to look back at these pages and remember what was going on in our everyday lives. Everyone always tells me how fast these early years will go by, so I want to make sure I soak in every detail, every smile, and the every day.

Project Life - Weekly Update Template

Inspired by the "after school printable" created by Silverbox Creative Studio, I created this Weekly Update for Wade and I (and eventually Phinn!) to fill out.

I don't plan on using it every week - instead, I'll probably only use it once a month or whenever the mood strikes me. I'm really trying to let each week be "loose" and just create each spread without worrying about having to include certain things every week.

I'm still trying to figure out how to allow readers to download PDF's I make here on Blogger... so far, no luck.

Project Life 2012 Week 01

I finished Week 1 and I am really happy with the way it turned out. I decided to treat some of the 4x6 slots as mini scrapbook pages so I got to use a lot of the supplies I have from my old scrapbooking days. Here is the left hand side:
Left hand side
I had been contemplating how to include my 365 project into Project Life (I am taking a picture of Truman everyday!) and decided to print out the "collage" that's in the bottom right. Here's the picture:

I only has 6 of the 7 days because I have the seventh picture as a full 4x6 picture. I also print out two 3x4 pictures on one 4x6 sheet to save money. I print them like this:

Then I simply cut them in half and presto! Perfect size for the middle slots. The right hand side looks like this:

And here is a close up of a few of the inserts I made.
It doesn't REALLY say "Last Name Here" - Ha

PL Printable Journal Cards

Made these Journaling Cards to fit the 3x4 slots in my Project Life album. Since we are out of color ink, I just printed them out in black and plan on coloring them in myself with a marker or colored pencils. Can't wait to use them!
Blogger doesn't seem to want me to attach the PDF file, otherwise I'd attach it here for everyone to use...

Project Life - FB Template

I check my Facebook on a regular basis - at least 3-4 times a day. The one thing I love is when friends update their statuses a lot - helps me see what's on their mind, what's going on in their everyday lives, and best of all, see pictures of friends and their kids. Funny enough, I rarely update my own status. Since Truman was born, I have been posting pictures of him (mostly so my sisters and cousins can see how fast he's growing!) but I only post an update about once a week, if that.
Don't get me wrong, there are times I want to post something on Facebook but for whatever reason, I choose not to. Perhaps my post is too cynical, too personal, or too boring (this is usually the case).

So I made these Facebook Update templates for those updates that I may or may not really post that I want to use for Project Life. They are formatted to fit the 3x4 pockets.
There is one for me and one for Wade. I may eventually make one for Truman (even though he doesn't have a FB!). I also made a generic version just in case.
I have them as a PDF file but haven't tried to print them yet (our printer is out of ink). I think I will use them for Week 1.

***Due to popular demand, I have uploaded the PDF of the Blank Facebook Status Update Template. You can find a link at the top right of this blog! Enjoy!

Project Life 2012 Title Page

How optimistic of me to label this post "Project Life 2012 Title Page" as if to imply that in the future I may one day write a post titles "Project Life 2013 Title Page". Let's hope I make it all the way to 2013!

Project Life 2012 Title PageBITS AND PIECES: I got the little white tabs from Staples, the 2012 is hand cut cork paper I bought years ago but never used (love it because it has adhesive on the back! I remember it was on sale and I wanted to buy their whole supply but for some reason didn't... now I'm running out and regret that decision!), and the H is from an old Tim Holtz grunge board set.
It's a pretty simple title page. I like that I can make mini scrapbook pages for inserts if I want or I can simply put a picture in and be done with it.

I gave exams all day today at work so I had plenty of time to think about what and how I want to do Project Life this year. Here are a few thoughts:

  • I don't really want to do a photo-a-day approach for each weekly spread. I anticipate that each spread will have a slightly different feel, which I need to be okay with.
  • Ali recently wrote, " My focus in Project Life is more on celebrating all the things that are good. That said, I did include a few things later in 2011 – short references to challenges, etc. so as to not completely ignore what’s very real in my/our life right now. Going forward it’s likely that I’ll continue to include pieces of the more challenging stories but most likely it will be in a way that’s reflective, looking for the good in the situation, lessons learned, etc." I really like the idea of NOT ignoring the more challenging parts of life. Back when I was an avid scrapbooker, I always wanted to scrap the things that were going on in my every day life, but when a topic or incident that wasn't all that sunny came to mind, I quickly dismissed it as a possible scrapbook page idea. I didn't think I should document negative things because I didn't necessarily want to remember them later as I looked through my scrapbooks. I wish now that I had somehow documented those times to remember how I felt and how I dealt with the trials life threw at me. There is still a part of me that is wary about putting in negative things in my PL album, but after reading Ali's entry, I will try to include those not-so-fantastic things that happen but with a reflective approach. After all, it's called Project Life, not Project Life-but-only-the-good-stuff.
  • I'm trying not to set too many boundaries for this project. I don't want to have a "theme" or a color scheme that I have to follow.
  • I want to get back into the scrapbooking community. I "met" a lot of fantastic scrappers when I was blogging back in 2007-2009.
  • I think the most challenging part of this whole process will be the pictures. I don't have a great photo printer so I will have to order them every week if I want to keep up with the project. That and I don't have a scrapbook room or even a scrapbook desk, so I have to be SUPER organized with my supplies.

Project Life 2012 Introduction

This will be the first (and hopefully NOT last!) year I will embark on the Project Life challenge.

Part of the reason I want to start PL is to be sure to document all of the amazing changes that are going on in our lives right now. Truman is 3 months old and he is changing so fast every day! Wade and I are both working and doing our best to take care of our amazing baby while at the same time attempting to take care of each other.

Also, my new year's resolution this year is to be less lazy - something that affects every part of my life. I want to be less lazy when it comes to housework, school work, and most of all, my social life. I tend to be socially lazy, allowing anything and everything to become my excuse to not participate in things. If nothing else, PL will force me to be more proactive in my life (so I'll have something to scrap about!).

Thank you for reading.
